Sporting Clays Rules
  1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

  2. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

  3. Keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
  4. A round of sporting clays consists of 50 targets.

  5. Actions must be open and guns must be unloaded with the exception of the shooter in the designated shooting station.

  6. All shooters and spectators must wear hearing and eye protection while on the shooting course.

  7. No more than 2 shells may be loaded at one time and only while standing in the shooting station.

  8. Targets will be scored as dead or loss, X or 0 respectively.

  9. The first shooter in each shooting group is allowed one show-me bird from each thrower (A&B). Shooters should rotate the first shooter at each station.

  10. A placard will describe the course of fire for each station. Targets must be shot in the order listed.

  11. Shooters may shoot 2 shots at a single target, and if the target is broken on the second shot, it is scored as dead.

  12. If the shooter misses the first target on a double, s/he may shoot the second shot at the same target. Shots will be scored accordingly.

  13. If a thrower throws a broken target, the shooter will be allowed to shoot the sequence of targets over. In the case of following pairs or report pairs, if the shooter has shot at the first bird, the first shot is established, and the pair must be shot again to establish a dead or loss on the second target.

  14. Shooters are allowed 3 gun or shell malfunctions in any 50-round course. Any malfunctions above this will be scored as a loss.

  15. Shooter malfunctions will be scored as losses (e.g. Shooter left the safety on, shooter did not see the target, shooter forgot to load the gun, etc.).
